How to Set Up an Aeroponic Tower at Home — Step-by-Step

Complete step-by-step guide to setting up your Urbanvana aeroponic tower at home. From unboxing to first seeds planted in under 30 minutes.

Setting up your first aeroponic tower sounds technical. It isn't. Here's the complete process from unboxing to first seeds planted — done in under 30 minutes.

Before You Unbox: Choose Your Location

The most important setup decision is where to put the tower. You need:

  • 6-8 hours of light per day (south or west-facing balcony in India)
  • A flat, stable surface (the filled tower weighs 15-20 kg)
  • Access to a power outlet for the pump
  • Protection from heavy monsoon rain if outdoors

Got those? You're ready.

What's Inside the Box

Open the Urbanvana box and you'll find: the tower body, reservoir base, pump with timer, net pots, starter nutrients (Part A and B), pH test strips, pH adjustment solution, and seedling plugs. Everything is labelled.

Step 1: Assemble the Tower (5 minutes)

The tower ships in two main pieces — the tower body and the reservoir base. Place the tower body onto the reservoir base and lock it in. Insert the net pots into each growing port. That's the assembly done.

Step 2: Mix Nutrient Solution (5 minutes)

Fill the reservoir with 10-15 litres of clean water. Add Urbanvana nutrients: 5ml Part A + 5ml Part B per litre of water for seedlings. Stir gently. The water should turn a light amber colour.

Step 3: Adjust pH (5 minutes)

Dip a pH test strip into the solution. Most Indian tap water is pH 7-8, so you'll need to add pH Down solution. Add 1-2ml at a time, stir, test again. Target: pH 5.8-6.2. This step is critical — wrong pH is the most common reason towers underperform.

Step 4: Set Up the Pump (5 minutes)

Place the pump inside the reservoir and connect to the timer. Set the timer: 5 minutes on, 15 minutes off. Plug in and watch water flow up through the central column and cascade over the root zone. Confirm it's returning to the reservoir.

Step 5: Germinate Seeds (2-5 days, mostly waiting)

Soak seedling plugs in plain water for 5 minutes. Place 1-3 seeds per plug depending on seed size. Keep plugs warm and dark — a kitchen cupboard works. Check daily. When sprouts are 1-2cm tall, they're ready for the tower.

Step 6: Plant in the Tower (5 minutes)

Insert each sprouted plug into a net pot. Place net pots in growing ports. Distribute plants around the tower — taller plants toward the top for maximum light, compact plants toward the base.

You're done. Check daily for the first week. Top up the reservoir with pH-adjusted water when the level drops. Your first harvest is 18-25 days away.
