Best Plants to Grow in an Aeroponic Tower in India

The top plants to grow in your Urbanvana aeroponic tower for Indian households — from coriander and methi to lettuce, basil, and cherry tomatoes.

Not every plant thrives equally in an aeroponic tower. After growing alongside thousands of Indian households, here are the crops that consistently deliver the best results in the Urbanvana system.

The Indian Kitchen Essentials

Coriander (Dhaniya) The most requested crop among Indian Urbanvana growers. Fast-growing (14-18 days to first harvest), fragrant, and expensive in markets. Grows year-round indoors. Harvest the outer stems continuously and the plant will keep producing for months.

Methi (Fenugreek) Both leaves and seeds are usable. Leaves are ready in 14-20 days. Slightly bitter when young, milder as it matures. Highly productive per port. Grows best in cooler months (October-February) but works year-round indoors.

Palak (Spinach) Excellent cut-and-come-again crop. First harvest at 18-22 days. High in iron and popular in Indian cooking — dal palak, palak paneer, and salads. Prefers slightly cooler temperatures; use shade cloth in peak summer.

Tulsi (Holy Basil) Sacred, medicinal, and culinary. Grows vigorously in the tower, especially in warm weather. Harvest the tips regularly to prevent flowering and encourage bushier growth. Produces for many months.

Pudina (Mint) Nearly impossible to overharvest. Grows aggressively and fills its port quickly. Best kept in its own port or two as it can crowd neighbours. Excellent in chaas, chutneys, and teas.

High-Yield Greens

Lettuce (multiple varieties) The classic aeroponic crop. Ready in 21-25 days. Red oak leaf, butterhead, and romaine all perform well. Grow multiple varieties in the same tower for a continuous mixed salad harvest.

Arugula (Rocket) Peppery flavour, fast-growing (18-22 days), popular in urban Indian households with a taste for Mediterranean food. Excellent with chaat and sandwiches.

Bok Choy / Baby Bok Choy Grows in 25-30 days. The compact baby variety is ideal for tower ports. Used in stir-fries and soups.

Fruiting Plants (Requires More Time)

Cherry Tomatoes The most popular fruiting crop. Takes 50-60 days to first fruit but produces continuously for months after. Plant in upper tower ports for maximum light. Requires support stakes as plants grow tall.

Green Chillies Grows well in Indian summers. Compact plant, high yield, minimal maintenance once established. Goes from transplant to first chilli in 45-55 days.

What Doesn't Work Well

Root vegetables (carrots, radishes, beets) — the tower is optimised for plants that grow upward. Large fruiting plants like pumpkin, cucumber, or brinjal — too large for individual ports and too heavy for the tower structure.
